Getting my blog back on its feet!

Getting my blog back on its feet!

After a long downtime I think I’m finally getting my blog back up and ready as a wordpress.org blog! I still have tons to figure out, specially why all of a sudden my site dropped off the search engines indexes. The blog is live and the URL is valid and working but for whatever reason, today… I’m invisible to google, yahoo, bing, you name it! I resubmitted sitemaps today, maybe that’s why. It’s really odd and SUPER ANNOYING.

I have a pretty big backlog of posts that I will need to get to as soon as I resolve all my technical difficulties. The good news… I have learned a lot about css coding in the last few days. I have learned a ton about wordpress.org and I’m getting ready to introduce my recipe index and my recipe cards. It’s gonna be fun!  Now my photos are showing up correctly and as big as the post container can allow… took a little bit of css hackery but I got it working. Anyways. Hang in there! This blog is almost medium rare!

I’m also trying to get better content and it’s amazing how many things can go into improving the search-ability of a blog. I’m currently proofing my posts using the Yoast SEO plugin and that has already taught me a ton about how search engines index content and how they handle meta data. The plugin also allows you to customize the meta data generated with the post to improve the chances of ranking higher in search engines. I’m still invisible to search engines but one thing at a time. I have a huge laundry list. I’m getting there! If I can fix my Facebook page today that would be incredible. At the moment the URL is busted, and although people have access to it and it looks like a Facebook page, the URL bugs me incredibly so that’s gotta get fixed. I’ll stop my rambling now. Time to work on this stuff. See yah!

  1. ‘‘ Great !! I’m on my way to follow you but I’m driving very, very slowly but with strong and firm step “lento, pero seguro” I guess it’s time to change it.

    1. thanks Mimi!!! if you ever decide to do it, I can tell you everything about my experience and what I would do differently now that I know more about it. Hope you’re doing well! Kinda miss the wordpress.com days πŸ™‚

  2. Ha with my blog move I sort of felt invisible for a while, but not really because in actual fact the same posts are the ones that bring me traffic (one of them is about fonts, NOT about food, should make me scratch my head). Congrats, I’ve managed self hosted before. And for work I manage 2 websites that have a very complex system, believe me, wordpress.org is fun and games in comparison πŸ˜‰ All the changes make us grow and learn more though. I hope you have a great time with your new blog. I love your photos so its great that they are now BIG! πŸ™‚

    1. it was a total nightmare for me to do the move. Granted, I have ZERO experience, and this is the first time I do anything like this. I deleted my entire blog once in the process, then couldn’t get it back online for 2 days… now I think things are finally stabilizing. I’m still not showing up on search engines… and trying to figure out why. I guess when they crawled my site during those 2 days, they only found broken links everywhere and they demoted my site. So, resubmitted sitemaps, i have a couple of emails out. Hopefully it all gets fixed in the next few days. Thank you for your beautiful comments, and I LOVE YOUR NEW BLOG! I’m gonna sign up now. See you soon!

  3. Your site looks great Paul. Good luck learning all the new stuff and once you do get the hang of it, I hope you DO write a post about it to help others :). My friend moved her site and said it was a nightmare. She lost all her stats and likes and was invisible to the search engines as well. She said submitting her URLs to the search engine helped. This is the link to it for Google: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url?hl=en&pli=1. You may already know about it, but try to submit each new post and your main URL. I hope this helps.

    1. thank you so much! I totally feel your friend’s pain. I kept a journal of all the things I had to do to get my blog up and running again… basically I had to learn at a really fast pace things I had no idea even mattered to get my blog back up and running. If I had time I would totally write a post. I have the info so that’s good. Search engines too dropped me and I had to get them to re-index my blog … I don’t think I lost my ranking but was definitely invisible for like a week. I resubmitted sitemaps and that helped. Today my urls get indexed right away, im always testing… and google adds them almost right after I publish them. Again, thank you for stopping by, for your kind comments and suggestions. I hope you’re doing great and keep on visiting!
